I have been tracking Where Winds Meet for a while. I still cannot believe it will be free to play. The game is a Wuxia action RPG set in tenth century China. You explore a big map, learn martial arts, and follow a story about power and survival. PlayStation just released a new trailer. You can watch it below.

What it is

Think open world martial arts. You can run up walls, glide across gaps, and fight with swords or polearms. Combat is about reading the enemy and picking the right answer. See the swing, dodge or block, then strike back. You can switch styles when you need speed or a heavy hit.

Core ideas

  • Big open world in the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period

  • Martial arts movement, wall runs and glides

  • Stance based melee with counters and parries

  • Story first, with side quests and small stories

Release date and platforms

  • Release date: November 14, 2025

  • Platforms: PS5 and PC at launch

Price model

The game is free to play. The studio says spending is for cosmetics, a seasonal pass, and an optional sub. They say no pay to win. The PlayStation Blog confirms the date and the free to play plan, and shows how combat works with simple examples. Here is the reference in case you want the official note: PlayStation Blog, Where Winds Meet combat focus.

How you play, in simple steps

Exploration

  • Climb, glide, and sprint to reach rooftops and cliffs

  • Mark points of interest, find chests and secrets

Fights

  • Watch the enemy wind up

  • Dodge, block, or parry at the right time

  • Hit back with a quick combo

  • Swap stances when you need speed or a stun

Tools

  • Mystic Arts add buffs, mobility tricks, and crowd control

  • Ranged options help you pull targets or finish safely

Modes

There are two clean lanes.

Single player world

  • You play solo by default

  • Some missions are solo only for pacing

  • You can open your world to a few friends for co op

Jianghu online world

  • A separate space for social play

  • Raids, big bosses, and guild style groups

  • Good for long term goals after credits

PvP status

The studio keeps pointing to guild features and large group activities in the Jianghu world. That setup suggests opt in PvP there. The single player world stays your space, so you will not get jumped while you are on a quest.

Progression and sects

Sects shape your build. Each sect leans into a style. One may focus on precision sword work. Another may favor reach and control. You pick skills, find gear that fits your lane, and branch into a backup style. It is about feel, not spreadsheets.

PS5 and PC notes

PS5

  • Haptics help you feel blade contact and parry timing

  • Performance mode targets 60 frames, quality mode goes higher on resolution

  • SSD makes reloads and fast travel quick

PC

  • Full controller support, keyboard and mouse also fine

  • Expect DLSS, FSR, and similar tools to help frame rate

  • Mid range cards should reach a stable 60 with the right preset

Quick FAQ

Is it pay to win. The studio says no. Purchases are cosmetic, a pass, and an optional sub. The core game is free.

Is it an MMO. Not exactly. The main world is a solo first action RPG. Jianghu is an optional online layer for groups and raids.

Cross play and cross save. Not fully detailed yet. I will update when platform pages confirm the matrix.

Controller on PC. Yes, plan for full support at launch.

Should you try it

Yes, if you want a martial arts open world with timing based combat and big movement. If you enjoy long solo play first and social raids later, this fits. If you prefer pure single player only, you can stay in the solo world and still see credits.

Final note

I am watching for the final PvP rules and modes. I love action RPG PvP when it is skill first and opt in, so I will update this the moment the studio locks the details. For now the picture is clear, release on November 14, 2025, PS5 and PC, free to play, story first, with Jianghu as the optional online layer.
