Hollow Knight: Silksong Patch 2 (1.0.28650)

Patch 2 is now live on the main Steam build (1.0.28650). No opt in needed. You get the same cleanup fixes from testing, plus the new Dithering toggle in Advanced video.
If you are wondering about the last one, that was the beta version from last week. It lived on Steam’s beta branch, which is a test track you join by choosing Betas in the game’s Properties. Only people who opted in saw it. Today’s update moves that beta patch to the normal build so everyone has it by default.
What changed
This is basically the same Patch 2 from last week’s beta, now on the live build for everyone. No new content. No nerfs. Just cleanup and clarity.
-
Video settings
Added Dithering in Advanced. Reduces color banding, can slightly soften foregrounds. Defaults Off. -
Achievements
Herald’s Wish description clarified. You must complete the wish and finish the game. -
Bosses and encounters
Fixed Savage Beastfly in Far Fields staying under lava.
Fixed rare cases of Shrine Guardian Seth going out of bounds.
Fixed rare cases of Second Sentinel knocking the player out of bounds.
Added a catch so Lugoli returns if it flies off screen.
Further reduced chance of Silk Snippers getting stuck out of bounds in Chapel of the Reaper.
Cleaned up messy or out of sync death sequences when you and a boss die together. -
Progression and softlocks
Fixed Shaman Binding into a bottom transition causing a softlock.
Updated Cocoon positions so they do not spawn in inaccessible spots.
Fixed Liquid Lacquer courier delivery being inaccessible in Steel Soul. -
NPCs and world feedback
Fixed some NPCs not playing cursed hint dialogues in certain cases.
Fixed Pondcatcher Reed not flying away after singing.
Fixed Verdania memory orbs replaying layered screen edge burst effects. -
Tools, damage, and combat behavior
Fixed break counter not working for certain multihit tools, for example Conchcutter.
Fixed Volt Filament damage multiplier not applying for some Silk Skills.
Fixed Cogflies and Wisps targeting Skullwings incorrectly.
Fixed Cogflies resetting HP to full on scene change.
Fixed Curveclaw always breaking on the first hit after a deflect.
Fixed Plasmium Phial and Flea Brew sometimes not restoring as intended at benches.
Dithering, should you use it
Dithering adds tiny noise to smooth out visible steps in gradients. If skies or fog look blocky on your display, turning it on can help. If your image already looks clean, keep it off.
Your screen looks like this | What to do | Why |
---|---|---|
Big blocks in gradients | Turn On | Hides the blocks |
Mostly clean image | Leave Off | No need to add grain |
OLED or high contrast, banding in a few spots | Try On, then compare | If edges look too soft, switch Off |
How to check your build number
You can confirm you’re on the live patch in under a minute.
-
Open Steam and go to Library.
-
Right click Hollow Knight: Silksong, choose Properties.
-
Launch the game. On the title screen, look at the bottom right.
-
You should see 1.0.28650. If you see an older number, restart Steam and let it update.
Optional: In Properties → Installed Files, you can use Verify integrity to force any pending update.
How to toggle Dithering
The setting lives in Advanced video. Here’s the quick path.
-
Launch the game, go to Settings.
-
Open Video, then Advanced.
-
Find Dithering and switch it On or Off.
-
Stand in an area with soft lighting or a big sky.
-
Toggle it a couple times and pick what looks better on your screen.
Tip: If edges look a bit too soft with it on, turn it off. If you see chunky steps in fog or gradients, keep it on.
Wrap up
Patch 2 landed how we expected, a tidy cleanup you can feel in real fights. Fewer weird stalls and softlocks, no nerfs spotted. The new Dithering toggle helps if you see banding, though some prefer it off to keep edges crisp. Check you’re on 1.0.28650, try the toggle, and keep rolling.
