Rematch on Steam, fun matches, long matchmaking

Five a side football that actually feels right is rare. Rematch hits the sweet spot, third person view, one player to control, walls that keep the ball live, and quick reads that turn into chances. The matches are a blast. I just wish finding one did not take so long.

Third person control that feels right

You see the whole shape and still feel close to the action. Control one player, read the lanes, and pick your moments. Dribbles, tackles, headers, and volleys sit on timing and position. Small touches matter. Over hit the ball and you invite pressure. Keep it tight and you can turn a marker.

I play on keyboard and mouse on PC. Default binds work, and you can switch presets or tweak mouse aim and tap sensitivity in Options. Since Patch 3, there are new mouse and keyboard settings, and you can revert to the WASD tap aiming scheme from early betas. After a few sensitivity tweaks, shots and first touch feel steady.

6 minute format and Clutch Time

Standard matches last 6 minutes. If a team goes up by 4, the game ends on a mercy rule. When the clock hits zero, Clutch Time can keep play alive for one last action. The ball does not leave the arena, so the flow stays quick. No fouls. No offsides. Fewer breaks. More play.

Team play over stats

There are no hidden ratings. No set piece cheese. Goals come from passes and smart runs. A quick wall pass can break a press. An early through ball works if the runner starts on time. Low crosses to the near post force keepers into tough saves. If you try to carry alone, teams close you down.

Cosmetics are there, but money does not buy wins. You get ahead by learning shape, using space, and talking to your squad.

The biggest matchmaking issue

The football is fun. The wait is not. In my experience from Southeast Asia, matchmaking can be slow and sometimes fails to pop.

  • Typical wait for me: 5 to 10 minutes

  • Some nights: search runs, then times out with no match

  • Modes that feel slowest: 5v5 and Ranked

  • Better but not fixed: 3v3 or 4v4 during busy hours

  • Pattern I notice: speed depends on region, mode, and time of day

  • Europe contrast: many matches appear in under 1 minute, sometimes in seconds

This is the only thing that pulls me out of the flow. The game plays great when a match starts. Getting into a match is the hard part here.

Crossplay status and why it matters

Rematch launched on June 19, 2025. At launch there was no crossplay. Crossplay went live on September 5, 2025. You can toggle it, and it lets friends and randoms match across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. This should grow the pool, which helps any region with slow searches.

Right now, the core game is strong. Pass, move, press, shoot. It all feels good. Matchmaking still needs more love in parts of the world. If the team can raise player pools at all hours, or tune how queues route by region and mode, Rematch will be easy to recommend to every football fan.
